Dear Parents,
On Friday, May 18th, the students will be taking a field trip to Ferry Beach Ecology School in Saco, Maine. Since 1998, Ferry Beach Ecology School “has brought innovative ecology education programs to thousands of children and adults throughout New England. The staff, at FBES, accentuates the magic, mystery and wonder of nature so that students can better understand and care for the environment.
While at FBES, students will learn about coastal watersheds and beaches and dunes. During the Beach & Dunes lesson, students spend time comparing the beach and dune ecosystems, as well as combing the beach for organisms such as surf clams, moonsnails, sand dollars and sand worms. Students also learn about the amazing adaptations beach organisms have developed which enable them to survive and flourish in the harsh sandy intertidal environment. Students also have a chance to witness human impact on dunes and beaches firsthand, as the FBES buildings stand directly on top of a secondary dune ecosystem. This field trip will be an introduction lesson to our Ecology Unit in science.
We will be leaving the school at 8:30 am and arriving at our destination by 9:15 am. We will be returning to school by 1:30 pm. The cost of the field trip is $14.00 each for student (bus and FBES). Students must bring a bag lunch with them on the field trip as we will be missing lunch at school. Please pack drinks and plenty of snacks!
Please sign and return the attached clip and money by Friday, May 11th. I hope everyone has a great week off! If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please email me at jpappalardo@windhamraymondschools.org.
Thank you for your continuous support!
