Grade 4

The transition from 3rd to 4th grade is an exciting one. Your child is leaving the primary school level to enter an upper elementary school; from one very large school with "houses" to a new school with less than half the number of students. What to expect:

  • letter grades on report cards
  • about 30 minutes of homework per night, sometimes more when projects are assigned
  • more long term projects and assignments
  • more cursive writing than printing
  • more written work and reading(depending on child's ability and placement)
  • use of daily assignment notepad
  • more emphasis on student responsibility and independence in work and behavior

The information found on this page includes an overview of the Fourth Grade curriculum themes, as well as learning objectives for this grade level. The most important way for you to find out more is to contact your child's teacher, especially if you have any questions or concerns. This page is not meant to be comprehensive and is only a general outline of what your child may experience in the fourth grade at Manchester.
