Black Brook Preserve Windham Land Trust

The beavers sense when their dam has been broken because they can feel when the current speeds up.

When the town cleared the dam, the water in the bog drained.  And now the field is visible.  Before it was flooded.

The town maintanance crew came with their backhoe and broke the dam that stopped the water from flowing.  You can now see the culvets.

This bog is near the road. The town manager was worried that it would flood the road.

Beavers only breed once a year.

Beavers have water-proof fur.  They spread castor oil on their fur.

Beaver especially like to eat aspen, apples and leaves.

Hawks, owls, dogs coyotes, bears, otters and wolves eat beavers.

We had to fill out an observation sheet about stuff that we noticed about the bog.

We had to compare beaver bog 1 with beaver bog 2.

Beaver bog 1 was in the woods  and beaver bog 2 was in a field.

This is when we were going to walk in the woods at the Black Brook Preserve.
