INDIVIDUALIZED PROGRAMS

CREDIT RECOVERY

Our CREDIT RECOVERY PROGRAM assists students at the

REAL School in regaining their academic standing with their sending school, allows them to fulfill the individual graduation requirements of sending districts, and allows them to complete the courses needed for individual vocational or post secondary educational options in the future.

Courses are completed by students in their own time or as part of a scheduled elective class time.

Students are also able to develop a portfolio of life experiences, work experiences, community-based service, individual creative projects, and other activities; then with the help of a teacher, students may demonstrate mastery of certain Maine Learning Results standards in that manner.

The work in each Credit Recovery course is assigned an hourly rating for its completion. Grades and credits are awarded based on a combination of mastery and time spent on tasks/assignments.  Students must achieve a 80% mastery of the standards within a course. Credits are assigned on the number of hours accrued in the course

20 hours = 1/4 credit

40 hours = 1/2 credit

80 hours = 1 credit

Additional courses/credits are also available through formal enrollment in correspondence schools.  Teachers at REALSchool assist students in the enrollment process and facilitate their work on the correspondence school's assignments.

TEEN ASPIRATIONS PROGRAM

This program matches teens with a facilitator and the resources to pursue an individual passion/dream.  Activities typically include mentoring, job shadowing/ internships, educational planning, development of a portfolio of experience and reflection, community partnerships, and other authentic learning experiences.

The facilitator designs an action plan and performance assessment, which reflects specific

Maine Learning Results Performance Indicators, skills, and concepts. All activities are based on the attainment of the individual student?s self-designed goals!  Credit is available to students who successfully complete this program.
