On February 17th, 2011, Raymond Elementary School celebrated “World Community Arts Day”.The students and staff dropped everything and created art for the day.World Community Arts Day started off in 2007 to celebrate the life of Reg Bolton who died in 2006.He was a clown, teacher, director, actor and writer.Reg Bolton was enthusiastic about the possibility of using circus for education, self-fulfillment and community development. This is the fifth year celebrating World Community Arts Day and the first year for Raymond Elementary School: a day to do art projects, however small or big.
There were 24 presenters leading from 3 to 5 workshops through out the day for approximately 250 enthusiastic students. Kindergarten through third grade went to a kinder-concert put on by Portland Symphony at Windham High School, while 60 sixth grade students from Jordan Small Middle School joined the Arts Day at RES.
The students have spent most of their days throughout the year working on academics and tests. This day allowed them to expand their creativity and use all their multiple intelligences.
